The organization known as FFA, Future Farmers of America, hosts their first meeting Wednesday, September 13th in the GHS agriculture room. The FFA officers are hoping to recruit new members for the Gunnison chapter.
FFA is a nationwide organization for students interested in agriculture and leadership. Every chapter has a group of officers that motivate and inspire members to lead not only within their community, but within the country. The GHS officers are holding the first meeting to get more involved with the local ranches and set new goals for the new school year. A few goals they have set include, hosting more fundraising events for the chapter, increasing local involvement, and promoting agriculture education.
Last year GHS FFA had 30 members, this year they hope to increase memberships by 10%. The FFA Creed, memorized by all members, states that, “ Achievements won by present and past generations of agriculturists; in the promise of better days through better ways, even as the better things we now enjoy have come to us from the struggles of former years.” The GHS chapter invites and welcomes those past members to the monthly meetings to share stories and ideas. FFA officers and members enjoy and welcome those good ole “back in the day” stories.
