Homecoming week at Gunnison High School (GHS) on October 2 – October 7, a time when everyone in school gets together to dress up for the themes, go to the school sports game to cheer for their favorite team, head to the homecoming dance and do fun activities.
Oct 2- For the first day of homecoming week the theme shall be Barbie & Ken, dress up pink! There will be a movie night at 7:30 P.M. at the GHS auditorium. The boy’s golf varsity will be heading to the state tournament. Good luck!
Oct 3- On the second day of homecoming week the theme will be cowboys vs. surfer/tropical, get your waves on! The boy’s varsity state tournament will be determined. The girl’s softball varsity will play against Cedaredge at 3 P.M. There will also be the softball girls JV will be played at 5 P.M. JV soccer vs. Alamosa at 5 P.M., and Boys varsity soccer will play at 6 P.M.
Oct 4- The third day of homecoming the theme will be Decades Day. Seniors will dress up as senior citizens, Juniors will dress in 90’s gear, Sophmoroes will dress in 80’s gear, and Freshmens will dress in 70’s. There will be a club fair where students can look around if they wanna join a club during lunch at 11:40 A.M. – 12:15 P.M. Softball Girls JV & Varsity will play at 3 P.M. & 4:30. There will be a seniors vs. juniors volleyball game at 6:30 P.M. at the main gym in GHS.
Oct 5- On the fourth day of homecoming, the theme shall be “your type.” In this theme, you will be dressed as a type of individual you’d be interested in, for example, frat boy, outdoors, preppy, etc. There will also be an alumni assembly at 10-10:30 A.M. in the main gym. Junior’s will be heading to the lighting of the Gunnison G, meeting at the Western Tomichi parking lot at 6:30. There will also be a celebration of the lighting of the G at the Aspinall-Wills on Conference Center Outdoor Space at 7 P.M.
Oct 6- On the fifth day of homecoming the theme shall be “GHS spirit/letter jacket.” There will be an awards ceremony at 8:30 A.M. There will be float building from 10-11:00 and advisory check-in from 11 A.M. to 11:15 A.M. Lunch is from 11:15-12:15. The pep assembly will be from 12:15 to 1:45 pm. The parade starts at 2:00 P.M. (line up) to 2:30 (start). Friday Night Lights starts at 7 P.M. There is going to be a half-time royalty for students who are going to be voted homecoming king and queen, with the band playing. Volleyball Girl’s C team plays against Cedaredge at 3 P.M. JV Volleyball plays at 4 P.M. while Volleyball Varsity plays at 5 P.M.
Oct 7- The last day of homecoming will be on Saturday, October 7th. the homecoming dance at GHS from 7-11 PM in the GHS commons. There will be a girls varsity softball doubleheader vs. Basalt at 11 P.M. at Jorgens Park. Soccer boys varsity vs. Basalt at 4 P.M. at GHS soccer field.
The week of homecoming will be filled with sports, theme events, a parade, and the homecoming dance. Best of luck to all the sports this week. Let’s go cowboys!
