WIDA
Students that register in the Gunnison Schools have to fill out a form that shows if they or their parents speak any other language other than English. Then, these students are given a screener that shows their English level. If they still need to improve their English skills, they are given the WIDA test every year to show their progress with the English language.
At Gunnison High School this year 57 students took the WIDA. Four years ago there were only 16 students who took the WIDA test.
In Gunnison high school students speak Spanish, Cora, Qanjobal, and other language. So this year there are a lot of hispanic students and so many student’s are doing the WIDA for the first time.
