Nicoline Friedrichsen is an exchange student from Denmark who is currently attending Gunnison High School (GHS) during her junior year. Friedrichsen is a member of the International Cultural Exchange Student Program (ICES). The program brings foreign exchange students to the United States to experience the American education system.
Friedrichsen’s school system back home is different from our school system because of the way they have classes with all grades instead of one. Also, students there don’t really get graded, they just get told if their work is good or bad. Her favorite aspects about the American school system are that the sports are connected to the school. In Denmark, she played hockey. She chose to come to Gunnison because she wanted to experience Colorado culture. Nicoline did not have a choice in regards to what school she wanted to go to.
“I like my host family a lot,” she said. “They are very nice people and very loving too.” Friedrichsen’s host family chose her out of many student options.
