Spring Sports Rev up at Gunnison Highschool

While the winter sports wrap up,  the spring sports begin! Gunnison High School has three spring sports that many students participate in including track, baseball, and girls’ golf. Track and baseball are already having practices, but girls golf waiting for the snow to melt before they start off the season.

Most of the coaches for the spring season are very surprised and impressed with the number of freshmen participating in the sports. Baseball’s attendance is made up of 11 freshmen! Which is about one-third of the whole baseball team.

“I think our league is really tough, and we are going to have to play well but this is a good group of boys,” said Coach Tom Percical, the head coach of the baseball team.

While baseball is inside practicing, track is soaking up the sunshine while they train outside.

“ I feel like it (Track) this year will be a jump from middle school but it’ll be a fun and new experience,” says freshman, Ashlyn Cowan. Even though there is snow on the ground the track team is working hard for their first meet which is on the 25th of March.

Speaking of working hard, girls golf starts in a few weeks like baseball, the girls golf team has many freshmen. This year we have varsity golfers that went to state last year who are continuing their golfing career at Gunnison High School.

The spring sports schedule is on the Gunnison High School website so please go support the   Cowboys!
