Basketball Finishes off regular season
February 16, 2023
Gunnison high school basketball is one of many very long sports seasons at GHS but even though it seems extensive both girls and boys are pushing through obstacles and continuing to have a great season.
Up to this point the girls varsity team has lost six games and won six out of the 12 teams they have competed against. There has been some significant successes by the girls basketball team, Chad Terry, who is the head coach of the girls varsity team said, “When we step on the floor at any given game, we can be competitive.” Other than varsity the JV team has had some great accomplishments as well. Alex Engel displayed her leadership while Yazlin Hernandez and Eden Williams showcased their strong abilities as posts. Regarding the C team, they have impressed many people with their accomplishments. C team has won eight of the ten games they have played and was undefeated for a long time until the recent losses against Monte Vista.
This season the boys team has also achieved some major goals throughout their season. The boys varsity had very close games this weekend against North Fork and Grand Valley, with both games coming down to a one or two point difference. Unfortunately they lost both, after the North Fork game went into overtime with a buzzer beater from Wyatt Howery. As far as JV and C teams, Max Peluso helped JV to success by joining their team as a freshman. The C team won their game against Monte Vista on Monday the sixth of February with another buzzer beater by Aaron Baca.
The upcoming games for the girls and boys teams are JV
and Varsity games on Friday, February 10th, and Saturday, February 11th, competing against Meeker and Roaring Fork.
