Wrestling For Success

This season the wrestling team has continued to build on the substantial success it experienced last year. Some examples are the growth of the girls wrestling team, there are now many first time freshman girls that are now competing and have achieved great accomplishments. Alternatively the returning upperclassmen boys have been achieving some success as well, Royce Uhrig placed first in Florence and built on his 27-0 record. Miles Harris placed third in Florence and is on a 26-2 record.

For the first time ever the team traveled to Utah in December competing in a very large tournament. The team did some activities before the tournament, for example the girls went to the mall to shop. Caroline Sudderth said “It was lot’s of fun and it was cool how we got to go out of state for a tournament with lots of girls.”

The GHS boys over the weekend competed twice against Olathe and North Fork. Some new freshmen boys had many achievements, including Ashur Schellenburg and Malchijah Perez both placing second and the boys overall took third beating North Fork. While the boys were in North Fork the girls competed in Colorado Springs and overall took ninth.

Tonight, January 26, is Varsity, Junior Varsity, and the girls wrestling teams last dual of the season. They will be competing against North Fork.
