Gunnison High School Choir Hosts Annual Christmas Concert
December 15, 2022
Gunnison High School choir held up their tradition of performing at the Night of Lights, Gunnison’s annual community holiday celebration, on Friday, December 2nd. The small choir of nine people has a powerful sound and big plans. This year they are focused on providing the community with the sound of music and also creating more of a community amongst themselves.
On Wednesday, December 14th the choir performed their second concert of the year. They performed a variety of Christmas songs. Concert choir performed; Biddy Bum, Ding Dong Maralee on high, and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. Show Choir performed; Silent Night, What Child is This, Carol of the Bells, Angels we Have Heard on High, White Christmas, and a jazz rendition of Oh Christmas Tree. Not only did Concert Choir and Show choir perform but the new Teacher Choir made its debut with the chorus to Hallelujah.
Ms. Jauregui, the choir director, has plans to continue the Belle Voix choir from last year. The choir got much praise and won first place last year for their performance at the Colorado West Festival in Grand Junction. She told the Giddyup that “I have already picked the music this year and have some pretty exciting things planned.” as of now Jauregei is not sure whether Belle Voix will be a class or an after school club, she is also not sure if she will have students audition or not. Either way, students will get credit for it that will count towards their art credit or elective credit.
The Gunnison High School choir has enjoyed their year thus far and has been able to spread the joy of music with the community. They plan to go to Colorado West again this year in the spring and they also plan to have two more concerts this year.
