This year Gunnison high school has taken on several new interns into their staff. One of these, Hunter Mullin, is the new student intern for Mr. Mickleson in U.S History which is taught to Sophomores. Mullin is a 6th year senior at Western Colorado University, where he is majoring in History with a minor in English. Mr. Mullin was born in Clay Center Kansas, he is 23 years old. Mullin currently wrestles for Western Colorado University. He would like to coach wrestling on top of his future teaching position.

Looking at this year so far he says that even though it’s hard work he has been having a very fun experience and has been learning a lot. So far he has been getting a feel for what he would like to do individually when he is an educator and has been taking classes for teaching, observing teaching styles and subbing when needed. Mr. Mullin likes the environment at GHS so far, he feels very connected with his coworkers and he is able to work hard with them. He moved to Gunnison in August of 2017 which was the summer before he started school at Western. Currently Mullin is taking 5 classes which all help him with his present internship and his future teaching position.

He says that he has learned a lot on how to be professional and how he can use skills he’s picked up from team building in other teaching environments to aid him now at GHS. After his 1 year student teaching his plans include for him to stay in Gunnison for a few years to keep wrestling on the senior circuit before getting a teaching position at GHS preferably. He is qualified to teach both History and English but would prefer history since he has a passion for the subject. Mr. Mullin has been doing an amazing job so far at GHS this year, with only positive feedback to share from students and teachers.
