Teen Advisory Board (TAB)
November 17, 2022
Not many people know about Gunnison’s Teen Advisory Board, which is a brand-new program that is being held in the Gunnison Library for middle school and high school students to come and join. The group meets once a month to discuss events, plan volunteer opportunities, and more. The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) began meeting on October 26, 2022, and their main purpose has always been to provide teens with opportunities and a voice.
There are many volunteer opportunities as well as programming opportunities being discussed in the future. Current programs that the TAB supports are the Teen Writing Society and the Gaming Guild, both of which have already begun meeting this year. The group is hoping to run a food drive for the holidays and also volunteer to help at the assisted living center.
Keelin MacCarthy, who heads up the program, hopes that by engaging in this program, teens will be able to gain experience and develop skills that will benefit them in school and in their later lives. Students who are interested in joining can pick up an application at the Gunnison Library’s new location at 1 Quartz Street. Participation requires a once-a-month meeting, a few hours a month of time, and a willingness to engage in the community, and is ideal for resumes as a volunteering experience.
