Silent Killer
Breast cancer is a life changing disease that commonly occurs in 1 out of 8 women in the United States. Breast cancer takes place when cells start to form abnormally. October is an important month that brings awareness to breast cancer. Founded in 1985, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is essential to spread awareness and help raise funds for research, treatment, and care. At Gunnison High School (GHS), the football team supported the cause by wearing pink sleeves during their game and they were supported by a highly motivated audience, who was also wearing pink. The girls volleyball team showcased their support by wearing pink socks, shoelaces, and hair accessories at their game on Tuesday, October 26. The varsity team wore pink jerseys and hosted a bake sale where the money went to a local nonprofit organization (Tough Enough to Wear Pink). Members of the group also donated their hair to Locks of Love, to help create wigs for people struggling with hair loss.
Grecia is currently a senior at GHS. She enjoys being outdoors in her free time, either hiking, going on runs, or simply just enjoying the view.
